Three stunning cocktail ideas for chilly days and frosty evenings

If you are thinking about a gin and tonic (and let’s face it, who isn’t?) chances are there’s plenty of ice, a slice and a warm summer’s evening in there somewhere. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Swop your garden bench for an armchair by the fire and cosy up with one of our winter warmers.

 

Distiller Pete’s Spiced Orange and Cranberry Winter Warmer

Ingredients:

50ml St. Giles Spiced Orange and Cranberry gin
25ml cinnamon syrup (see below)
100 ml cranberry juice
15ml water (still or sparkling, alternatively use lemonade)

Add a wheel of fresh orange and a few fresh cranberries if available. Gently warm before serving.

Cinnamon Syrup ( 4 servings):

Mix approx 100g of sugar with 100ml of water and heat gently in a pan until all sugar dissolved. (Add more sugar for a sweeter syrup)
Crumble 1 cinnamon stick and stir
Add a tsp of allspice berries and stir
Add zest of 1 lemon and stir
Add a couple of cloves, star anise and other ‘Christmas spices’ if desired
Warm gently for 2-3 minutes. Leave to stand for 24 hours.
Strain

 

St. Giles Signature Gin Hot Toddy

If it is really cold outside why not brew up a hot gin toddy to warm you from the inside out.

Ingredients:

30ml St. Giles Gin
25ml fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon of sugar
60ml hot water
Cinnamon stick garnish

Combine the gin, lemon juice and sugar in a glass mug. Add the hot water and stir well to dissolve the sugar. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and enjoy.

 

St. Giles Hedgerow Club

Ingredients:

50ml St. Giles Gin
20ml sugar syrup
10ml lemon juice
20ml red vermouth

4 fresh blackberries

Sprig of thyme

Muddle the blackberries in the base of a cocktail shaker. Add all the other ingredients. Shake with ice and strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with a sprig of thyme.
